Deleting Instagram was the best decision in 2020.

I know. Irony. We’re all in social distancing mode and social media is a literal savior in times like this. But I promise you, it had changed me a whole lot.

So I deleted my Instagram. It’s been off for 3 months now, and I’m loving it so far. Here’s why.

  1. I stopped comparing myself
If you’re active on Instagram and we have similar algorithms, you may come across many, many posts about growth and productivity. At least mine does. The posts are mainly about how this person succeeded just by doing blah, or how that person made a whole lot of money because he.. I don’t know. Bent a stick. It just is draining to me because I react differently. It corners me. Everyone has their own time, and posts like that don’t really hit the fast-forward in terms of time, ya know?
  2. Looking through archives
For some reason, I love doing that. I love doing those #tbt posts (throwback Thursday, where you post something of your archives), and reminiscing the good ol’ days. It’s pretty toxic to me. Everyday is different and looking back will not change anything.
  3. Useless information
I mean, it’s cool to know what friends are doing and everything through their stories or posts. But, you could use that time and brain capacity doing something else, right?
  4. Less phone time
This felt SO GOOD to see my screen time has reduced by around 14%. I mean, I spend most of my time on my phone replying to customers or doing work (I work as a Marketing Designer so posting, talking to customers, etc is a huge part of what I do daily). So to realize that I could use 14% of my time (14% was about 1 hour) doing other productive things, I never felt better.
  5. Life beyond social media
This is super cliche. But seriously, title says it all. I think Instagram is good, but to what extent?

So, consider trying this. Let me know. :)

Cheers.
